Most Americans are aware of the bias by political party. This is greatly exemplified during elections or almost every day. The political world never stops, therefore, all the lies and biases never stop either. There are some that believe the media shows a bias when the information comes to being in favor of a certain political party and supporting one side or the other. The media, on the other hand, does not think this is true. In fact, they think they cover political issues as fair as possible. During this past election, the media believes they did not let situations go because they “were in favor” of one side over the other. For example, in the article “How Media Lost the Election,” Anne Kingston claims, “...reporting gave rise to false equivalency, with disproportionate focus on Clinton's emails, even after the FBI all-clear” (Kingston par. 4). By stating this she was trying to give an example to the American people that, although people thought the media was in favor of Hillary Clinton, they were still reporting what was needed regardless of the effect on Hillary Clinton. The media showed, even though she had been cleared of her emails, that there was still suspicion and controversy on whether or not Clinton was truly telling the truth. Kingston also addresses the ideas of some of her fame on the media was not because the media was in favor of her politically but that her husband's presidency (Kingston par. 5). However, some Americans believe just because they reported what they needed one time, does not mean they don’t report what was actually needed other times.
Counter Argument:
There are some Americans in our nation that think bias by political party is still an issue and happens more than one would believe. Some argue just because the media can report the information right once does not mean there were hundreds of times before they could not and more to come where they cannot either. The Americans believe the media does pick a side they want to support and anything they do will somehow be spun to good or not scrutinized as harshly than the other side. In the passage “Is It Possible to Cover Trump Fairly?,” Ruth Marcus states, “Should news organizations depart from customary restraint and label Trump's falsehoods as outright lies” (par. 3). The media loves to cover the so called “lies” from President Trump but do not cover the “lies” that have been proven from Hillary Clinton. President Trump, as well as many others, did not think the media was fairly or accurately covering the election. When saying this, Eric Schwitzgebel was sarcastically pointing out the issue of political bias and he discussed the unbalance in the media world towards political views. The media briefly discussed the leakage of classified intel on Clinton’s computer and how she deleted her written emails before anyone could see them; she ignored the court order for the Federal Bureau of Investigations to look at the emails. An incident that immense from a woman who is asking to get elected to run the country should be scrutinized, but the media was too focused on a statement made by President Trump many years ago that was said in confidence that most males, right or wrong, acknowledges in private. In the article, “The Vicious Cycle That Leads to the End of Democracy”, Schwitzgebel states, “Does democracy require journalists and educators to strive for political balance” (Schwitzgebel par. 1). When saying this, Schwitzgebel was sarcastically pointing out the issue of political bias and discussed the unbalance in the media world towards political views. The media has an issue of properly reporting news and need to keep their personal feelings aside from the job. Americans claim that they are for bringing up issues needed to be discussed, but if so discuss the information fairly. There are many forms of bias in the media and will need to be advised.
