The American people often say that media shows bias through the importance level of one over another, meaning the media judges one person more than another because of their status in life. This is a problem although the media claims this is not the case. In fact, the media critics society on the same level and only critic when the person has done something worth discussing. They want the American people to know that they're not out to get people and make others look bad, but they are there to inform and report important information to the public. In the article “Networks Should Have Consistent Standards for Airing Advocacy Ads,” by Jeffrey Lord, discusses that “inappropriate scandal with GoDaddy.com and how the media covered the story knowing the information needed to be acknowledged and made aware to the people regardless of the importance, and the amount this company gives back to our economy” (par. 11). This was in the attempts to report the information they were given no matter who is or was on the other side the story; someone important or someone non-important the media does uncover the truth given any circumstance. The media also prides themselves on being as fair and equal as they can. However, the American people do not all agree that the media does not judge one harder than another based on their social ranking.
Counter Claim:
Some Americans believe that media does report stories based on the social ranking and the importance of the individual. In other words, Americans believe and are concerned the media is not telling the truth. How do we know there isn’t major things happening behind closed doors in the “big and rich” world that needs to be known? This is an issue that needs to be addressed and discussed including America. However, the media is not supporting this movement because they say they do not show bias by importance level. In the article “Media Guilty of Double Standard,” Jonah Goldberg talks about when being in the light all the time also known as the media there is going to be rumors and stories made up about the individual or business. He talks about being the media is hard and stated, “Now, truth be told, I think some of this skepticism is understandable" (Goldberg par. 3). Although Goldberg does not say so directly, he assumes that being the face of information and the one asking important questions to corporates, the media will be attacking famous personal. These rumors usually start from the famous individuals publicise, so the attention comes off of the individual and gets fed through the American people. Therefore, this is normal to have skepticism and rumors, however, this does not mean the rumors are true. Although there are Americans out there that argue differently and believe the media does show media bias through social ranking, there is another way the media shows bias and that is through influential people.
